Indian Medical Students Trapped in Iran Plead for Evacuation as Regional Tensions Rise
Exams Forcing Students to Stay Back
Despite a travel advisory urging all Indian nationals to leave, several students said their universities refused to postpone critical medical exams. This makes it difficult for them to exit the country immediately. Missing these exams could delay their progression by months, leaving them torn between academic obligations and personal safety.
Families in India Growing Increasingly Anxious
Parents back home say communication has become irregular due to unstable networks. Many families reported nights spent awake, waiting for updates from their children studying in cities near suspected strike zones. India’s Ministry of External Affairs urges restraint and respect for sovereignty. It prioritises the safety of 10 million Indians in the region, while S. Jaishankar engages counterparts diplomatically amid rising tensions.
Calls for Immediate Government Action
Indian students in Iran have appealed to the government for urgent evacuation and support, highlighting that many remain because of critical exams. Student bodies have also urged that authorities and universities consider postponing exams so students can leave safely.
Uncertain Days Ahead
As the security environment in Iran remains volatile, students feel frightened, urging the Indian government to launch a proactive evacuation strategy before conditions deteriorate further. Yet, families and students remain hopeful that swift coordination and timely action will soon bring them safely home.
