We are all well acquainted with the current health emergency confronting the nation. Major hospitals are grappling with a severe deficit of infrastructural, technical, and human resources. Even more distressing is that numerous medical facilities and nursing homes equipped with essential equipment lack the skilled personnel to operate them, leaving potentially life-saving machinery to sit idle like scrap metal.

A widespread shortage of trained healthcare personnel appears to persist across the entire nation. Consequently, even exhausted physicians are increasingly vulnerable to mental stress that impacts their professional output. Doctors, nurses, and medical officers have been working tirelessly day and night over the past few weeks, yet they remain unable to deliver the necessary and adequate care to those requiring assistance.

Having examined the situation and pinpointed the issue, the subsequent phase involves determining remedies. Leading figures within India's health management framework, such as Dr. Devi Shetty, have already highlighted a potentially impactful strategy. Numerous specialists recommend that during this critical period, the government of India should permit graduates in fields such as medicine, nursing, laboratory assistance, and foreign graduates to support established professionals immediately.

Although the country is experiencing a medical emergency, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued the 2021 Draft for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) that fails to address current demands. Instead, it seemingly adds further complexity to procedures for India's already understaffed healthcare sector. The National Exit Test (NExT) will incorporate an extra paper for foreign medical graduates, and students must have completed their studies at overseas universities adhering to the curriculum mandated by the NMC. This announcement has further complicated the struggling medical training framework and could negatively impact the nation's healthcare system in the future.

A webinar featuring esteemed specialists including Dr. Girdhar Gyani (Director General at Association of Healthcare Providers), Dr. Alexander Thomas (Founder Member and President of AHPI, ANBAI, CAHO), Dr. (Mrs.) Reena Nayyar (Former Secretary of Medical Council of India), and Air Marshal Dr. Pawan Kapoor (Vice Chairman of Ashiraj MBBS and Former Director of Medical Service (IAF)) is scheduled for 30th April 2021 at 4:00 PM.

The subject of the webinar is Role of FMGs in Corona Crisis and NMC Draft 2021. Interested students, parents, educators, and mentors are welcome to participate in this online session and follow the discussion using the provided link.
