The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the curricula for Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12 covering the 2022-23 academic session. The syllabi for Class 10 and Class 12 are no longer split into two terms, signaling the end of that specific framework.

To address the disruptions to student education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, CBSE implemented a term-based testing approach for the 2021 student cohort. The term 1 tests for 2022 took place in November-December 2021, while the term 2 tests are set for April-May 2022 and are beginning shortly.

During 2021, CBSE was forced to implement a different evaluation model because examinations were initially delayed and subsequently called off during the severe second wave of COVID-19.

Representatives from CBSE have previously verified that the board will revert to a single annual final examination model starting in the upcoming academic year.

A high-ranking CBSE representative told a major newspaper, "The board decided to conduct two term exams for the session 2021-22 in order to avert any unprecedented situation caused by the pandemic. Even as the NEP 2020 favours two-term exams, it has been decided to switch to the previous practice for now and conduct one set of board exams at the end of the academic year. The stakeholders also suggested one exam policy."

On Thursday, CBSE published an official announcement verifying that board assessments will take place just once per year beginning next academic session. The official announcement, dated 21st April, 2022, noted, "Considering the feedback of stakeholders and other prevailing conditions, the Board will conduct the annual scheme of assessment at the end of the Academic Session 2022-23 and the curriculum has been designed accordingly."
